How to Grow Your Email List Using Facebook Groups
If you're like many coaches and consultants, you probably enjoy a lot of engagement with your audience on social media. Facebook Groups' semi-private nature is particularly great for sharing information with client cohorts or attendees of a specific event. Another benefit? You can quickly and efficiently grow your email list using Facebook Groups!
Why Email Marketing Is Important for Coaches and Consultants
Look, we love Facebook Groups as much as the next person. They're one of the best places for engaging in conversations with your followers. They aren't perfect, though. You could miss out on engaging with a potential client if:
They decide to deactivate Facebook for a few weeks and miss an announcement
They follow a lot of pages and don't have their notifications set up to show all of your group's content front and center
You — or they — wake up one morning to find your account locked due to an error
The latter is unlikely to happen if you follow social media best practices. Still, it's good to have more than one method of communication — especially one you can control, like email marketing.
By modifying your marketing strategy to include email blasts and social media posts, you can be sure that you're reaching all of your followers evenly.
Turn Your Facebook Community Into Email Subscribers
Growing an email subscriber base from scratch can feel like a slower process than building up an audience on Facebook. While social media lets you invite anyone you want to your Groups, email etiquette typically means you have to wait for someone to sign up voluntarily.
Luckily, if you already have a robust Facebook Group going, you can use it to speed up this process by encouraging your members to subscribe.
Method #1: Collect Email Addresses at Sign-Up
Facebook allows group creators to set up a series of questions that potential members must answer before joining the group. You can add a field for a member to input their email address. Make it optional and be clear that you'll be contacting them outside of Facebook.

This method only works for closed groups. If you have an open group or would like to collect email addresses from existing members, you'll want to give them a good reason.
Method #2: Offer Something Valuable
Adding value or creating an air of exclusivity are tried and true ways of getting a Facebook follower to sign up for your email list. You can:
Offer a free copy of eBooks and workbooks
Promote a subscriber-only video series
Talk about email-only giveaways
Run a mini-course through emails
Facebook doesn't let you collect emails in posts, however, so you'll need to share a link to your subscriber form.
How to Use Facebook Followers’ Email Addresses
Simply put, you'll just need to deliver on your promise — sending a course, eBook, or exclusive update. In practice, though, this can feel more complicated…especially when you're busy with other things like, oh, running a successful business.
